Overview

Metadata added to a space can easily be retrieved and applied on other pages, or in other spaces either as a individual space metadata value or by selecting a range of space metadata value names.

This means that for example, a single space can be created for data entry as values for metadata names, and the values of each of the metadata names can be retrieved and used in the space where the metadata has been added or in other space pages.

In a space using metadata in this way,  similar to using metadata on a page, avoids the continual repeated entry of data into tables across a space with the values simply being entered at a single point.

In reverse the metadata values from across a range of pages can be reported back to a single page to create a dashboard of information.

Retrieving a single piece of space metadata

To retrieve a single metadata value from a space, choose the space metadata from macro from the Confluence macro browser:

The macro editor allows you to configure the macro.

The macro requires you to add the space metadata value name.

The source space defaults to the current space. To retrieve space metadata from another space, add the space key for the space.

In the example the metadata Team Owners has been defined using the space-metadata macro. Once you choose Insert, the macro placeholder is displayed on the edit for the current page, with the metadata value name appended.

The value of Team Owners will displayed on the current page. In the example the space metadata value was added as Comala Development Superstars.

If the metadata included any wiki formatting as part of the value then this will be rendered on the current page together with the value. Otherwise the value is displayed unformatted.
